Our mission: Reduce production costs for greenhouse growers by helping them implement more cost-effective supplemental lighting strategies

The problem: Supplemental lighting is often necessary to produce high quality greenhouse crops during periods with little sun light. Supplemental lighting can also assure that crops are produced on schedule. However, the electricity to operate the lights is typically the second largest variable production cost (after labor). With the low profit margins that are typical in the greenhouse industry, electricity costs can eat away at profitability.

The solution: The cost of providing supplemental lighting can be reduced by only providing supplemental light when the crop can use the light efficiently and by not providing more light than needed. Although this philosophy is simple, it can be difficult to implement because of constantly changing weather conditions and differences among crops. By accounting for the physiology of specific crops and monitoring ambient light levels in real-time, supplemental lighting can be adjusted continuously to make sure that the needs of the crop are met, while not providing more light than needed. This will reduce electricity costs and increase profit margins.

Our philosophy: We want to partner with greenhouses and lighting companies to assure that growers can get a maximum benefit out of their supplemental lighting systems. As LED lights get introduced into  greenhouses, there are many new opportunities to more precisely control supplemental light, including spectrum and especially intensity. The get the best possible return on investment, it is crucial to take into account real-time weather conditions, photoperiodic requirements, and crop physiological parameters. We help growers develop the lighting strategies that best fit their needs and provide LED controllers to automatically implement those strategies.
